Oriental Warehouse Lofts San Francisco | Historic South Beach Live-Work Lofts

Experience authentic San Francisco loft living at the Oriental Warehouse, a designated San Francisco Historic Landmark originally built in 1867. Located at 650 Delancey Street in the South End Historic District of San Francisco's vibrant South Beach neighborhood, this 4-story converted warehouse offers 66 unique live-work lofts with dramatic exposed brick, timber beams, and floor-to-ceiling arched windows, just steps from Oracle Park (AT&T Park), SFMOMA, the Embarcadero Waterfront, and world-class dining.

Oriental Warehouse Historic Landmark & Architecture

Built in 1867 by the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, the Oriental Warehouse served as the primary storage and distribution point for Asian imports including tea, rice, silk, coffee, and spices arriving from China, Japan, and other Orient destinations. As the first company to establish regular mail, passenger, and cargo service between the United States and Asia, the Pacific Mail Steamship Company made the Oriental Warehouse a central hub of San Francisco's maritime trade history.

Originally sitting directly on San Francisco Bay with a dedicated ship slip for loading and unloading cargo, the building also served as an immigration processing facility for Asian immigrants, primarily Chinese arrivals, before the opening of Angel Island. The building was designated San Francisco Landmark #101 in 1977.

While the building survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire, it sustained damage in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and a subsequent four-alarm fire. In 1995, the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency approved a preservation and conversion plan, saving the building from demolition. The award-winning 1996 conversion by Reliance Development Company, with architecture by Fisher-Friedman and Edmonds + Lee, preserved the historic brick exterior while creating an entirely new structure within the original walls.

Oriental Warehouse Loft Features & Floor Plans

The 66 industrial-style lofts at the Oriental Warehouse range from 1,251 to 1,986 square feet, with 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom layouts plus den options. Most lofts feature two-level living with open floor plans, exposed original brick walls, washed timber and steel beam details, dramatic floor-to-ceiling brick arched windows, 20-foot ceilings in main living areas, skylights with automated coverings, reclaimed hardwood and pine flooring, contemporary kitchen finishes with stainless steel appliances, spa-style bathrooms, two full bathrooms per unit, in-unit washer/dryer hookups, and private patios on lower-level units.

Oriental Warehouse Building Amenities

Oriental Warehouse lofts include deeded parking in the on-site parking garage, personal storage cages, elevator access, and some top-floor units with exceptional San Francisco Bay and city views. The live-work designation makes these lofts ideal for artists, creatives, and professionals seeking authentic industrial loft character with modern conveniences.
